Our Top 7 Locations || Best Engagement & Bridal Session Locations in Utah

We’ve been doing this for a little over 5 years now, and have been lucky enough to with over 250 couples during the course of those 5 years - hella blessed!

The question we get asked, hands-down more than any other is this:

“Where should we take our photos?” or “Do you have any recommendations for the location?”

Why yes, we do…!!!! Because we’ve been asked this question so often, we decided to make a blog post about it & share what exactly we love about these 7 locations!

1. Jordan Pines (Big Cottonwood Canyon)

I think it’s safe to say we’ve shot here more than any other location! Reasons?

  • No permits required - it’s public land & it’s free to shoot here, unlike Albion Basin up Little Cottonwood Canyon (we may do a separate blog post on what’s required to shoot here in the future!)

  • LOTS & LOTS of big, beautiful pine trees. We love those deep, rich green tones & they photograph oh-so beautifully

  • The light. The 30-60 minutes of that last bit of light in this part of the canyon is just breathtaking.

2. Guardsman Pass (Big Cottonwood Canyon)

Looking for some fall color? How about some open meadows surrounded by aspens? Going for more of a high-alpine look for your session? Look no further than Guardman pass! You can access guardman pass via Big Cottonwood Canyon, Park City, or Heber Valley. We used to live in Heber Valley & fell in love with this place while we lived there.

Some of our favorite things about this place are:

  • Beautiful meadows in the summer

  • Amazing fall color in the winter

  • Easily accessible for couples coming from Salt Lake City and Provo/Utah County

  • Beautiful Light that dances behind you, creating a beautiful golden hour in the aspens.

3. Heber Valley / Midway

Remember when we said that we used to live up here? Well… safe to say that we absolutely fell in love with this little slice of heaven… and we just might be counting down the days till we can move our little family back up here.

Some things we love about shooting up here are:

  • Color - the greens, tall tan grass, and golden light are everything that we live for as photographers.

  • Light - being on the EAST side of the Wasatch mountains, we can shoot towards the Wasatch range at sunset, giving you some beautifully backlit portraits

  • Ease of access for those coming from Utah County

4. Trappers Loop Road (Snowbasin Resort)

This one is home for us. We spend most winters skiing & snowboarding at Snowbasin Resort, and it’s a quick 30 minute drive for us to get up there. The summers & winters up here are amazing, with beautiful views of the Wasatch mountains, rolling meadows, and some breathtaking wildflowers in the summer months.

Reasons why we love Trappers Loop:

  • Wildflowers - beautiful yellow, blue, and red wildflower blooms in the early-mid summer months.

  • Ease of access for those coming from Davis & Weber Counties

  • Beautiful views of the Wasatch mountains

5. Antelope Island State Park

This is another area that is super close to home for us, and anyone who lives in Davis & Weber counties. Antelope island is at its best in the spring, fall, and winter months. The summer months can make it almost unbearable with the bugs, but when it is tolerable - there’s no place like it in Utah.

Reasons we love Antelope Island:

  • Breathtaking views that you can’t get anywhere else in Utah

  • Clean & simple color palettes - tans, greens, blue skies

  • Amazing reflections off the Great Salt Lake - almost surreal at times!

  • The best sunsets in the state can be seen from Antelope Island - the reflections from the lake almost create an illusion that makes the horizon disappear!

6. Tunnel Springs Park (Bonneville Shoreline Trail)

Sometimes, simplicity wins. If you want a clean & simple, easy-to-access location for your session, look no further. This place is a 15 minute drive from SLC and has some of the prettiest rolling green hills (beautiful tan grass in the fall) you’ll ever see.

Reasons we love Tunnel Springs Park:

  • Ease of access (see a recurring theme here?) ;)

  • Greens is our favorite to work with - and Tunnel Springs Park has a LOT of it! just green, rolling hills as far as you can see.

  • Diversity - you can get the rolling hills, or tuck away into one of the side canyons for some beautiful shots in the trees. It also is lined with a beautiful old wooden fence that looks great for someone who wants a more country/western look for their session.

7. Dead Horse Point State Park (Moab)

If you’re willing to take a bit of a drive for your session (a little less than 4 hours for those driving from Provo), we’d highly recommend Dead Horse Point State Park! The views of the red rock canyons below are breathtaking & unbeatable. This place holds a special place in our heart & we cherish every opportunity we get to photograph people in this one-of-a-kind landscape.

Reasons why we love Dead Horse Point State Park:

  • Ease of access

  • Breathtaking red rock views within a reasonable driving distance from Provo or Utah County

  • The light here at golden hour is unlike anything else we’ve ever seen. Those rocks just come alive at sunset.

  • Great location for someone who wants a more boho/whimsical session location.
